Best Food and Drinks in Lake Tahoe

Cult Burger: A Must-Try for Burger Lovers
If you’re a burger lover, stopping at Cult Burger is an absolute must. Cult Burger has earned its reputation for serving up some of the best burgers in the Tahoe area, making it the perfect place for a hearty meal after a day of exploring. I found this gem on Instagram and made it a habit to stop by whenever I’m in the area for a shoot at Emerald Bay or Eagle Rock. My go-to order? A classic cheeseburger with extra cheese and their homemade pickles—because pickles and cheese are basically my love language. And if I’m feeling extra hungry, I’ll go for the fries with their signature tomato jam. Just keep in mind they’re closed on Mondays and take a seasonal break from September 29th to November 15th.

Steamers Bar & Grill: A Local Favorite with a Five-Star Feel
Steamers is a local favorite with an unbeatable vibe and standout menu. Their Parmesan-crusted tacos are a must-try and pair perfectly with a cold drink after a day at the beach. Igor and I discovered Steamers on our very first trip to Tahoe and fell in love. It’s the kind of place that embodies the best of a dive bar but with a five-star feel. The patio is perfect for warm evenings, they host live music that sets the mood, and their drink specials are hard to beat. I’ve even had clients choose it as their welcome party spot! Follow them on Instagram for updates and events.

Wolf by Lisa Vanderpump: Elegance Meets Good Eats
Wolf by Lisa Vanderpump is a newer addition to Tahoe, and I love, love it! Even if you’re not a Bravo fanatic like I am (shoutout to my fellow Vanderpump Rules fans!), you’ll still be blown away by how stunning this place is. The food is decadent, and the cocktails? Next level. You’ve got to try the OG Pumptini, the smoked Wolf Old Fashioned, or one of their indulgent dessert drinks. What I love most is how this place has transformed that corner of Stateline, adding a touch of elegance to the casino area. As a former SoCal resident, seeing a slice of that Bravo magic up here feels like a connection between my past and present. Check out more Bravo vibes on Bravo TV.

A stylish restaurant interior with chandeliers and bar seating sets the scene. A platter of appetizers and drinks is on a marble table, perfect for unwinding after a day spent discovering Lake Tahoe.

Old Range Steakhouse: A Cozy Spot for Steak Lovers
For a hearty dinner, Old Range Steakhouse is a must. The cozy, vintage atmosphere is perfect for unwinding after a day on the lake. Their steaks are top-notch, and the wedge salad and shrimp cocktails are equally worth ordering. It’s the kind of place that feels like a warm hug after a day in the snow or sun.

European Vibes in Tahoe

Himmel Haus: German Comfort Food at Its Best
Nestled next to the California Lodge, Himmel Haus is a wintertime favorite for Igor and me. There’s just something about diving into a plate of spätzle or sharing a giant pretzel with a cold stein of beer that warms you up from the inside out after a day on the slopes. It’s like a mini alpine escape in Tahoe, and we always bring Igor’s parents here when they visit for a taste of Europe that feels familiar.

MacDuff’s Public House: Scottish Fare You Can’t Miss
MacDuff’s Public House is another favorite of ours, especially on those cozy Tahoe evenings. The truffle mac n cheese is always a must, and their bread pudding à la mode is the perfect ending to any meal. The laid-back atmosphere makes it easy to swap stories and share laughs with friends. Whether it’s après-ski in the winter or a casual summer night, MacDuff’s is always a great idea.

Breakfast Favorites (Because Breakfast Is the Best!)

Red Hut Café: A Tahoe Classic
A Tahoe staple that’s been serving up hearty breakfasts since 1959. Red Hut Café’s old-school diner vibe and delicious bacon and eggs make it one of the best things to do in Lake Tahoe in the morning. If you’re a breakfast lover like me, this is your spot!

Heidi’s Pancake House: Pancakes and Alpine Charm
With its cozy, alpine charm, Heidi’s Pancake House serves up fluffy pancakes and friendly service. Perfect for fueling up before hitting the trails or the slopes. And if you’re not in a rush, treat yourself to a mimosa for a fun brunch twist!

Tahoe Bagel: Quick Bites and Fresh Bagels
Tahoe Bagel is perfect for travelers needing a quick and tasty breakfast. I love grabbing a jalapeño bagel with cream cheese or a half dozen bagels with homemade cream cheese to enjoy at home. It’s ideal if you’re on the go or planning a relaxing breakfast in.

Clyde’s Coffee Roasting Company: Fresh Coffee and Pastries
For coffee lovers, Clyde’s Coffee Roasting Company is a must-visit. The blueberry scones and apple strudels are baked fresh daily and pair perfectly with their on-site roasted coffee. It’s the perfect spot to start your day or take a midday break.

Beyond South Lake Tahoe: Worth-the-Drive Gems

Genoa Bar: Nevada’s Oldest Thirst Parlor with a Small-Town Feel
Just 20 minutes from South Lake Tahoe, Genoa Bar is worth the short detour. It’s the oldest bar in Nevada and feels like stepping into history. The town gives off Stars Hollow vibes, and after a day of skiing or exploring, sitting around the fire with a drink in hand feels like pure Tahoe magic. In the summer, the bar comes alive with bikers, live music, and a burger truck. And if you’re here in September, don’t miss the famous Candy Dance. I also used to work here so it holds a special place in my heart.

Honorable Mention: Genoa Country Store
Right across from Genoa Bar, the Genoa Country Store is perfect for breakfast or lunch. I can’t get enough of their tuna and tri-tip sandwiches, and they have a fun selection of Genoa-themed souvenirs that always make me smile.

Top Activities and Scenic Spots in Lake Tahoe

Skiing at Heavenly, Kirkwood, and Northstar
If you’re planning your winter itinerary, skiing is one of the must-do activities in Lake Tahoe. We ski Heavenly because it’s close and huge, with the unique perk of being able to ski across the California-Nevada state line. We use the Epic Pass, which covers Heavenly, Kirkwood (perfect for advanced skiers), and Northstar (super family-friendly). I learned to ski later in life, so I stick to the green and blue runs, but Igor, who grew up skiing in Sarajevo, tackles the more challenging ones. There’s truly something for everyone in Tahoe.

Boating and Kayaking: Lake Tahoe from the Water
Renting a boat is a summer staple for us, especially around my July birthday. There’s nothing like cruising the lake with the sun on your face and a great playlist. Tahoe’s weather can be unpredictable, so watch out for sudden wind that can create some serious waves. Tahoe Sports is our go-to for boat rentals. If kayaking is more your style, Clearly Tahoe offers transparent kayak tours that let you see all the way down to the lakebed—totally magical.

Best Beaches: Zephyr Cove and Sand Harbor
Zephyr Cove – Close to home and perfect for kayaking or paddle boarding with the pup. If you get there early, you can usually find a quiet cove that feels like your own private beach. Parking is $12, so pack a lunch and your drink of choice for a full day by the water.

Sand Harbor – This iconic beach with its boulders and clear shoreline is one of Tahoe’s most beautiful spots. Get there by 6 am to snag a parking spot (trust me, it’s worth it). Parking is $10 for Nevada residents and $15 for others. And if you’re planning a photo shoot here, don’t forget the permit!

Discover Lake Tahoe's serene beauty on a rocky shoreline with boulders, two tall trees, and light snow. Enjoy the calm water and distant hills under a colorful sunset sky, making it one of the must-experience things to do in Lake Tahoe.
